Driveway alarms typically come with three driveway monitoring sensor types.  The sensor/transmitter is usually an outdoor-rated Passive Infrared Sensor (PIR), Magnetometer Probe, or a pneumatic rubber hose.

Three Main Differences in Driveway Monitor Sensor Types

What's the difference? PIR sensors are the most popular.  This sensor will detect a combination of heat and movement to trigger.  A magnetometer will detect large metallic objects moving through the monitored zone to trigger. Which driveway alarm product should I choose? Ultimately, it comes down to the a) type of sensor you need, and b) how far it is from the transmitter/sensor to the remote receiver.
